Each diode is wavelength specific.Wavelengths determine the laser’s depth of penetration and power determines the dosage delivered to depth in tissues. Power (Watts) is the rate of energy delivery and energy is measured in Joules (1 Watt = 1 Joule per second). Higher power at the surface will deliver more energy to the desired depth.

The 650nm wavelength, besides being used as an aiming in the visible range, serves a dual purpose by offering laser energy in the class 3B range, thereby stimulating the effects of photomedicine. 650nm is best absorbed by the skin and acts to enhance the effects of the other wavelengths. In addition, this wavelength transfers a great deal of heat energy to targeted tissues, this being therapeutic in and of itself. Additionally, as endothelial cells are found in abundance in melanin (which readily absorbs the 650nm wavelength), and, since skin is a major part of the endocrine system, the 650nm wavelength is very beneficial in photomedicine (laser) therapy.
